The Harwood Arms is a rare breed, the only Michelin-starred pub in London. This establishment combines the warmth of a traditional British pub with the finesse of a fine dining restaurant. Here, venison Scotch eggs and slow-cooked deer shoulder sit comfortably alongside a curated wine list and polished service. It’s a place where game isn’t just a theme; rather, it’s the main event.
I visited on a Sunday for a roast lunch.
Location / Environment
Tucked away in a quiet corner of Fulham, The Harwood Arms is set up in a casual and relaxed setting. The interior exudes a rustic elegance, with wooden floors and a cozy fireplace. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a leisurely meal or a special occasion.

The staff is also quite pleasant, resembling more the warmth and pleasantries of a pub rather than the formality of a Michelin-starred restaurant. There was a bit of a gap in between the dishes, but nothing that significantly disrupted the pace of the meal.
Menu
The menu at The Harwood Arms is a celebration of British produce, with a particular focus on game and wild food.

There is a regular daily menu with the option to pick 2 or 3 course for a set price (£64 or £79 respectively) or a Sunday menu that includes a Sunday roast. Similarly, you can opt for 2 or 3 courses.
There are also some pub snacks, such as the famous Venison Scotch Egg.
The Harwood Arms – Food
I kicked things off with the Venison Scotch Egg. A traditional dish transformed with the use of rich venison and a perfectly cooked egg. While it’s good on its own, the combination with the Oxford sauce made with vinegar, sugar and mustard served on the side is what sets it apart. Delicious and rightly one of the flagship dishes at Hardwood Arms.

As an appetizer, I picked the Chalk Stream Trout with sauce gribiche, a French cold egg sauce, trout roe and soda bread crackers. I loved the combination of the sauce, the acidic roe and the rich and fatty trout.

From the Sunday roast options, I picked the slow-cooked deer shoulder wrapped in bacon with horseradish cream. Since it’s a traditional roast, you can’t omit the Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, baked carrots, as well as cauliflower cheese and greens on the side. A true feast, and the deer shoulder was absolutely tender and delicious.

Finally, the dessert was a British classic, Sticky Toffee Pudding, served with butterscotch and vanilla ice cream. This is a rich dish, but very well executed and fit for the end of a wonderful meal.

Conclusion
The Harwood Arms stands out as a beacon of excellence in London’s dining scene. It successfully marries the comfort of a traditional pub with the sophistication of a Michelin-starred cuisine. Whether you’re a fan of roasts or simply appreciate high-quality British fare, this pub offers an experience that is both refined and unpretentious. For those seeking a dining experience that is both exceptional and approachable in terms of value, The Harwood Arms is a destination worth visiting.
