Sisi Bagels is one of the closest things to a New York bagel shop you will find in Madrid. It only opened its doors in 2024, but it already has two locations in the city and getting ready for the third one. In November 2025, it received 3rd place at the best international bagel category at the bagel fest in New York.
I have already visited a couple of times to try different bagels at their spot at Calle del Espiritu Santo in Malasaña.
Location/Environment
The shop has a small counter where you can order and where your bagel is being prepared. In the right corner, there is an open prep/kitchen area where dough for the cookies and other elements is being prepared.
On the walls, you see memorabilia from New York and Sisi Bagels merchandise.
There is a sitting space in the basement as well for those who want to eat their bagels there.
The staff prepares the bagels at the time of the order. I understand this takes time, but overall, considering the number of people waiting sometimes, the pace was very slow. Comparing this with any bagel store I have been to in New York, it has a noticeable difference in terms of speed. That said, it also varied between visits, so I had much better experience one time compared to others.
Sisi Bagels – Menu
The menu has a wide variety of bagels. Those include variety in the bagel itself (Sesame, cheese, jalapeno, among others) and the ingredients inside.
There are also several cookie options, coffee and other non-alcoholic drinks.
I will note that in all my 3 visits the Pastrami was never available.
Sisi Bagels – Food
The Classic Lox is my favorite. It comes with salmon, cream cheese, capers, red onion and tomato. I opted for the jalapeno bagel, and it worked well with the rest of the ingredients. Really liked the cream cheese as well.
During one of my visits, there was a Caesar’s salad bagel. It came with chicken, croutons, lettuce, cheese, and Caesar’s sauce. It was good, although I think the combination of the Caesar salad in an already dense bagel might be a little excessive. I assume it’s a limited edition/seasonal bagel since I saw it on and off the menu a couple of different periods.
The BLT was my least favorite since I felt that overall the bagel was dry and the chicken quality was not great. For this one, we opted for the everything bagel, which has both white and black sesame as well as a variety of spices.
The Sisi bagel is served hot with cream cheese, garlic butter, and herbs. It had simple combinations, yet it was rich and flavorful.
The last bagel I tried was the Turkey club. Filled with Turkey, roquette, gouda and pickles, it had good flavour combinations. I liked the honey mustard sauce that was included in this one.
The Big Fat Cookie with chocolate chips and walnuts was okay. I didn’t love that the chocolate chips weren’t gooey, so you only tasted chocolate in the exact spots where the chips were in the dough. That said, it still had plenty of chocolate chips, so it didn’t feel lacking in chocolate overall.
Conclusion
Sisi Bagels is a good place to grab a bagel if you have the patience and time to wait. I recommend coming early and avoiding peak hours, especially when there’s already a line, as service can take quite a while. That said, it is on the pricey side—the bagels are closer to what you’d expect to pay in New York.
