Mómö Kebab is a new addition to Madrid’s food scene. Here you can eat kebab, but in a more modern setup with an emphasis on high-quality ingredients and little twists that combine Middle Eastern and Western cuisine elements.
Location / Environment
Mómö Kebab has one of the most original designs I have seen in a long time. The whole sitting area is designed to look like a metro wagon. The chairs, the small tables that remind you of a train table, and the walls with the menu and Mómö Kebab logos that look like train maps and ads you would see in a wagon.
At the end of the seating area, you can see the small open kitchen with the grills for the potatoes and the kebabs. Near the entrance, there is a self-ordering kiosk, which makes the ordering process simple and effective.
Menu
The menu is simple and includes two types of wrap, one with chicken and one with beef. There are also grilled potatoes and a variety of dipping sauces available.
Instead of the traditional spit fire cooking, Mómö Kebab cooks everything on a Japanese fire grill (robata).
Service
Since this is not really a restaurant, the interaction with the staff is limited. Nevertheless, it was very pleasant to use the self-ordering kiosk (both English and Spanish available).
The staff brought me some potato chips until my order was ready which was a nice touch.
Mómö Kebab – Food
The beef kebab is served on pita bread with sun-dried tomato sauce, baby leaves, Criolla salad, and the beef kebab. You can opt for spicy or regular. The kebab is served in a fancy gold wrapper with stickers that remind you of a 90s fast food in the US.
The chicken kebab was my favorite. Chicken meat with baby leaf salad, sun-dried tomato salsa and red cabbage. It is topped with a yogurt-based sauce like tzatziki and one with Ras el Hanut spice mix.
The grilled potatoes are soft, served with black butter and cilantro. I am a fan of french fries, especially with kebab, but considering the concept of the menu this was a good alternative.
There are also various salses to choose from, including a Ras el Hanut mayo, a green tzatziki and a spicy Salsa brava.
Conclusion
Mómö Kebab offers a new and modern way to look at kebabs. The quality is great and its menu is really “fresh” compared to what you would expect to find in a regular kebab place.
