Burgers served in a place inspired by American lunch counters

Milwaukee Burger is a rapidly expanding burger chain, currently with 6 locations in Madrid. Same as with a lot of other successful places, it was created by a group of friends (some of them Americans) inspired by American lunch counters.

The main differentiator here, compared to other places, is butter. Milwaukee Burger specializes in butter burgers. Even the potatoes are fried in butter. Although it sounded dangerous for my cholesterol levels (its slogan is “No reservations, definitely no lettuce”), I was inclined to try it.

There is the option to go to the restaurant or order delivery.

We went to their new location in Chueca on a Saturday for lunch.

Location/Environment

The Chueca restaurant is a true representation of a classic lunch counter restaurant. A large counter that runs almost across the whole restaurant, overlooking the kitchen.

A lot of decoration details, such as the seating, Coca-Cola merchandise and decoration, directly transport you to a US diner setting.

The service is casual and efficient. Claudio and Alba, who were serving our section, were pleasant and helpful with recommendations and information about the menu.

Milwaukee Burger – Menu

The menu is composed by four key things. Meat, buns, fries and butter (that is used for cooking most of the dishes).

The menu is short and includes a few burger options, two chicken burgers, fries and onion rings. Not extensive but comprehensive in terms of options.

There are also various milkshakes, beer and soft drinks.

Milwaukee Burger – Food

The Milwaukee Butter Burger is the crown jewel of the menu. It has a double smashed patty, bacon, cheddar, caramelized onions, pickles and Milwaukee sauce. Obviously, they use butter for cooking the meat. It’s true that butter makes everything better; it was rich and juicy.

The spicy fried chicken sandwich is topped with coleslaw, pickles and buffalo sauce. The chicken was juicy; however, not particularly crispy.

The cheeseburger is similar to the Milwaukee Butter Burger without the extra butter and the bacon. You can choose whether you want a single or double patty.

The Milwaukee fries were very tasty. They fry them in butter, and it shows; they are really crispy and fluffy inside. They had a strong paprika flavour from the spices on the outside, but no other spice was prominent.

We had to try the milkshake to fully experience the meal in a proper manner. We got the one with chocolate, which had a rich, sweet flavour and came with whipped cream on top.

Conclusion

Milwaukee Burger is a solid option for classic smash burgers and fries. I would place it somewhere in my top 5, but my top 3 burgers in Madrid still are Hundred Burgers,  La Revolucion, and La Prensa.
