La Prensa is one of my favorite smash burger restaurants in Madrid. With several different options for delicious burgers, it currently has 5 locations in Madrid.
We visited the one in Malasaña for lunch on a Saturday.
Location/Environment
La Prensa has a very lively vibe. If you opt to eat at the restaurant you can expect some nice music, including American hits from different periods.
There is a central communal table, smaller tables with benches, and high tables offering a variety of seating options.
La Prensa – Menu
The menu at La Prensa includes various smash burger options, fries, and appetizers like Coxinhas to celebrate La Prensa’s founder, who is originally from Brazil.
There is also a nice beer selection including my favourite lager, Miller.
Service
This is essentially a burger place so while the service is basic, the staff is polite and accommodating.
La Prensa – Food
We started with the Dadinho de tapioca, essentially little yuca and cheese croquettes. Crispy on the outside and served with a sweet and spicy pepper jam that completely elevated the dish.
The spicy smashburger is my favorite (yes I love spicy if you haven’t figured out already). Crispy and caramelized patties served with American cheese and a great sriracha sauce. Delicious!
The Classic is served with just two patties and American cheese — a solid option for anyone who likes the traditional combination of a cheeseburger.
The Cabra smashburger is topped with creamy cabrales goat cheese which is very rich. A good option for anyone who likes intense cheeses. You can opt for gluten free buns (as we did for this one).
Finally do not miss the french fries. Thinly cut fries, very crispy on the outside and served with a condiment of your preference (we opted for spicy cheese sauce). Probably my favorite fries in a burger spot in Madrid served in their pretty basket.
Conclusion
La Prensa is a great option for those looking for a smash burger in Madrid. If you like saucy burgers like I do, then you are in for a treat! Highly recommended.
