La Perejila is a well-known tapas bar in Madrid. Equally favored by tourists and locals, it serves many classic tapas dishes, vermouth and wine. The restaurant does not accept reservations and the seating is limited so it gets full quite fast.
We visited on a weekday for lunch.
Location/Environment
La Perejila occupies a small space in La Latina neighborhood. The restaurant has influences from Andalusia in its decoration and is overall really jovial.
The tables are very close to each other and its always busy, hence relatively noisy.
La Perejila – Menu
The menu includes various tapas options that cover most of the classic dishes you would find in Spanish cuisine.
Service
The service was fast and the staff was pleasant. Not overly attentive, but it was fit to the fast pace and the concept of a tapas bar.
La Perejila – Food
We got a basket of bread with tomato and olive oil as well as 2 gildas for a starter. The bread was slightly toasted and the tomato was nice and fresh. The gildas had a nice acidity and crunch to them.
Next a platter of jamon iberico (which was perfect to combine with the bread and tomato). Really nicely cut pieces, slightly thick, but very tasty. It was so good that we had multiple slices of bread with jamon and tomato, so we did not try as many dishes as we would have without all the bread (no regrets).
We also opted for the salmorejo with hard-boiled egg and jamon. It was also quite good although I think we were approaching the season that tomatoes are not so sweet. As such, it was not the most flavorful I ever had. Still a good option though.
Finally, we got the veal meatballs served in veal sauce. Interesting sauce which was a combination of sweet and savory flavors.
Conclusion
La Perejilla is a very good option to enjoy some tapas and a quick drink. It does not give me the vibe of Hermanos Vinagre where the atmosphere is more relaxed, but I enjoyed the food a lot. Definitely recommended.
