Hermanos Vinagre serves traditional Spanish tapas in a modern environment. Currently with 3 locations in Madrid, it is a very good option to enjoy classic tapas with a beer or vermouth.

Location and Environment

We recently visited the location in Chueca for some tapas around noon. Hermanos Vinagre was supposed to open at 12 pm, but it took about 10 more minutes until they were ready.

A modern environment with bold red colors on the wall, while still maintaining the classic “barra” elements of a Spanish tapas bar.

Hermanos Vinagre – Menu

The menu includes a variety of tapas, such as the famous Russian salad, anchovies, and cold cuts. A typical list of dishes that you expect to see in a good tapas bar.

I will note that there were dishes that were not available, such as the tartare that we wanted to order and did not have available.

Service

Other than the delay in the opening time, the service was fast and professional. The staff was also able to guide us in terms of the portion sizes so we could structure our order better.

Hermanos Vingare – Food

As a first dish, we opted for the anchovies on buttered toast, which is a very common combination nowadays in Spain. It was good, although a different type of butter, perhaps smoked or flavoured would have given an interesting dimension to the taste.

Next, the Russian salad, which in Hermanos Vingagre is served in a Russian matryoshka doll. A very tasty version, with olives, shredded egg yolk, and a type of tuna inside. It should also get additional points for presentation.

We got the croquetas with jamon that were very creamy with the bechamel sauce inside. A solid version, without being the best I ever had.

The patatas bravas were somewhat spicy which I liked a lot. However, the potatoes were slightly soggy hence I did not particularly enjoy it.

The small calamari sandwiches with the slightly spicy aioli on top were delicious. The calamari was cut into small pieces, it was crunchy and the bread was served warm.

Conclusion

Hermanos Vinagre is a very good option to try some tapas and has a wide enough variety that can be a full meal. Although the prices might be a bit high compared to the portions for certain dishes, in general, it is a very good value-for-money option.

  1. […] Casa Dani is definitely an option for anyone who is looking for some tapas in a market type of setting. The tortilla de patatas is excellent. However, while the rest of the dishes are solid, they do not reach the same level of taste and technique as the tortilla de patatas. I think certain tapas that you would get at Casa Dani (not the tortilla), are better executed at Hermanos Vinagre. […]
