Angelita is one of my favourite places for a great and not pretentious meal. While I visited for cocktails several times, it’s been over a year since I went there for a meal.
We visited with a few friends on a Friday for an early dinner.
Location/Environment
Since last year not much has changed in terms of the environment. The restaurant has an elegant design with a lot of wood elements. The wine bottles remain a key part of the decoration.
The staff is always pleasant and able to recommend dishes depending on your taste. The service is always impeccable when David Villalón, one of the owners, is the one attending to you. His staff is also well trained and professional although I found that some of the dishes could have been presented with more detail in terms of ingredients and preparation when they were served by the staff.
Angelita – Menu
The menu maintained some of the classic dishes like the tartare and the pisto with the vegetables growing at the owners’ farm. There were also new additions with fish and meat options.

As always there is an à la carte option and a tasting menu. I strongly suggest to combine the tasting menu with a wine pairing, since Angelita had one of the best wine lists in Madrid.
Angelita – Food
After a nice cold welcome soup, our first dish was a zucchini salad with smoked sardines. It was served together with some fresh tomatoes from the farm. The quality of the ingredients made this dish shine.

The next seasonal dish was a stuffed zucchini flower with ricotta, which was crispy on the outside. A classic combination with the ricotta cheese inside, this was a great appetizer.

Also, there was the beef samosa with tzatziki. Not a very traditional combination, but the rush samosa worked well with the refreshing yoghurt and cucumber condiment.

The mushroom ragu was served to one of my friends with gluten intolerance since she could not have the samosa. Very rich and flavorful dish in combination with the egg and jamon on top.

Next the classic pisto with organic vegetables, egg yolk and rosemary mayo. The way they cook the fresh vegetables into this sweet dish always amazes me since you rarely get such a balanced and flavorful vegetarian dish.

For the main dishes of the tasting menu, the fish was served on top of a bed of peppers with a rich sauce. Perfectly cooked and great combination with the sweet peppers.

Out last main course was the oxtail cannelloni with Sherry hollandaise. I very much enjoyed this rich dish with the acidic and sweet hollandaise sauce, although the oxtail was slightly over-salted.

After our mains, we had a small cheese platter with 3 different cheese options, before our dessert. The cheese options vary in type and intensity, although typically there is one blue cheese, one that has matured for several months and a fresher option.

In terms of dessert, we had a great lemon pie cup with lemon jelly, warm biscuit mousse and small meringues on top. Very balanced and perfect to end this meal.

Conclusion
Angelita consistently offers a great culinary experience. The quality of the ingredients is key and all the dishes are executed very well. This is a place that will never disappoint if you decide to visit, either for a light meal or to have their tasting menu combined with the wine pairing. While you can not consider Angelita a cheap option, I would definitely consider it a value for money experience. Highly recommended.
