Corvina Mx is one of those Mexican restaurants in Madrid that is not trying to be another generic taco spot. The focus here is clearly on seafood, with a menu that leans into coastal Mexican flavours. It is colourful and energetic so I was looking forward to trying it.

I visited with a friend for lunch on a Saturday.

Location / Environment

The atmosphere is lively rather than polished. There is colour, movement and a sense of momentum, which helps the restaurant feel engaging from the moment you walk in.

At the same time, it does not quite have the warmth or character of some of the best neighbourhood spots in the city. It is good-looking but feels more crammed than pleasant.

The service is friendly but not fast or very efficient, which in this location stems partially from the lack of space, as two staff members were managing the kitchen, service and everything else in a very small area. We ordered only raw dishes plus two tacos, so I was expecting everything to be ready in a maximum of 20 minutes, and it took over 45 minutes to get served everything.

Corvina Mx – Menu

The menu at Corvina Mx is built around seafood first and Mexican flavours second. You will find aguachiles, tacos and other dishes that draw from coastal Mexican cooking rather than a simplified international version of it.

The downside is that it may feel a little narrower for diners who want broader Mexican comfort food rather than a focused coastal approach. Still, that focus is part of the appeal.

Also, it has a lot of interesting versions of the classic Michelada, a Mexican beer-based cocktail, topped with various crazy ingredients for cocktail purposes, such as shrimp. These are typical in Mexico though, and support the original vibe.

Corvina Mx – Food

The aguachile is fresh and acidic with the proper amount of spice. I really enjoyed it and it was without a doubt my favourite dish of this meal.

The guacamole was decent although it lacked a bit of acidity and it had too much tomato for my taste.

The Torre Mamalona is a seafood tower with tuna, octopus, shrimp, avocado, onion and cucumber. It comes at the table and topped with a clamato based house salsa. Very fresh ingredients and good texture.

The governador taco with cheese and shrimp worked well with the complimentary spicy mayo.

Finally the Villamelon taco, which although didn’t look very appealing, was quite tasty with the combination of chorizo, beef and crispy pork.

Conclusion

Corvina Mx is a welcome addition to Madrid’s Mexican restaurant scene, which is obvious from the fact that it now has 3 branches in Madrid. The casual and seafood-led menu gives it a sharper point of view, and the cooking delivers enough freshness and flavour to make the concept work.

A few dishes could use a little more depth, and the room is more functional than actually creating an enjoyable experience.
