Poyo Club (previously Yopo Club) takes one of the most beloved comfort-food staples, fried chicken sandwiches, and completely elevates it. Founded by three Argentine-born restaurateurs with a passion for street-food precision, Poyo Club is equal parts sandwich bar and wine lounge. The result? A small-scale, high-impact spot where the chicken is juicy, the bun is perfect and the vibe delivers something more than just a quick bite.
I visited on a Saturday and opted for takeaway.
Location / Environment
Yopo Club occupies a minimalist space in one of Malasaña’s liveliest corners. The décor is low-fuss, bar stools, a compact dining counter, a few high tops and the mood is intentionally informal. Late evenings see the playlist turn up, wines flows (rare for a burget spot) and the roster of sandwiches continues.
The staff is friendly and accommodating.
Poyo Club – Menu
Poyo Club’s menu has three signature sandwiches (a Classic, a Spicy “Pica”, and a vegetarian-friendly version), along with sides like sweet-potato fries, onion rings and tenders served with house-made sauces. The chicken is not pre-cooked; they use deboned thigh meat for juiciness, coat it fresh and fried to order.
On the drink side, the wine list leans natural/organic and includes wines, vermouths and craft beer.
Poyo Club – Food
The classic sandwich comes with the signature fried chicken, cabbage, cheddar and pickles.A slightly sweet brioche that balances the pickles and their own “Salsa Poyo” is the bread of choice. The chicken is perfectly juicy and crunchy. My only objection would be the cabbage, which I found a bit dry. I would have preferred it as a vinegary slaw.

The pica is their spicy version with pickles, lettuce and Relief sauce. The chicken is coated in a spicy mix and although it was relatively spicy, I would have preferred it in a wet instead of a dry rub as the heat was more of an aftertaste.

There are two options for fries, regular or sweet potato. I opted for regular and they were great, crispy, not oily and flavorful. Probably coated with cornstarch for extra crisp.

Finally the onion rings had a thick crispy and fluffy batter, which was perfectly executed.

Conclusion
Poyo Club is aiming to perfect a very specific and beloved food category. If you’re searching for the best fried chicken sandwich in Madrid, Poyo Club belongs near the top of the list. Be ready for a short menu and a meal that asks for no more than your appetite for crispy, juicy chicken.
