La Hummuseria is Madrid’s compact temple to chickpeas that has made freshly whipped hummus its mission and turned simple Middle-Eastern plates into a reliable neighbourhood ritual. The kitchen keeps the focus tight and the menu is mostly vegetarian and vegan.

We visited on a Saturday for lunch.

Location / Environment

Located in Chueca, La Hummuseria occupies a small, luminous dining room that favours function over fuss: simple tables and bright walls. It’s the sort of spot that fills fast at lunch and dinner, so expect a lively, slightly buzzy atmosphere and limited seating. As such, it is good for casual meals but not for long private conversations.

The service is friendly and informal, which fits the restaurant’s vibe.

La Hummuseria – Menu

The menu’s cornerstone (as you can imagine from the name) is the lineup of hummus variants (classic, mushrooms, green tahini, pine-nut & almond versions), mezze dishes and Middle Eastern mains such as maklouba. Prices are modest and La Hummuseria is known for its weekday lunch menu priced at 14.9€.

There is also a short list of cocktails, wine and desserts.

La Hummuseria – Food

Obviously, if you come here, you need to try the hummus. We tried the green tahini version. It’s a smooth and well-seasoned version that I particularly enjoy. Also, I recommend getting the spicy Middle Eastern sjug hot sauce on the side.

A salad I really like is Fattush, with tomatoes, cucumber, radish, parsley, mint, onion, crunchy pita with za’atar, sumac and feta. A classic Middle Eastern option that was actually very filling.

The white beans are practically a thick soup with tomato sauce dish. It is served with rice on the side, and again I recommend adding sjug on top.

Finally, we tried the harira soup with lentils, chickpeas, short angel hair pasta and fresh herbs. I am a fan of acidic soups, so I would definitely like some vinegar on the side to add to this one, but overall it was a flavourful soup.

Conclusion

La Hummuseria does a few things and does them well: fresh-made hummus, friendly service, and a menu that respects vegetarian and vegan diners without sounding like a manifesto. It’s a reliable spot for casual lunches or relaxed shared plates in Chueca and an obvious recommendation for anyone looking for hummus or a vegetarian meal in Madrid.
