La Cosecha is a Mexican restaurant in Malasaña. It’s not a “viral” place or one you will find social media influencers and such. It is though a place that has traditional Mexican cuisine and serves freshly made dishes. What more do you actually need?
I visited for lunch on a Saturday with some friends.
Location/Environment
The restaurant has a casual vibe. Small tables and a modern wood barra dominate the space.

The staff is very polite and took time to explain the menu and make recommendations since it was our first time visiting La Cosecha.
La Cosecha – Menu
The menu is small in size but covers a lot of Mexican staples. There are chilaquiles, which are amazing tortilla chips covered in various toppings and smothered in sauce. Also classic tacos, huarache (masa dough with smashed beans), aguachile and other dishes.

The masa dough needed for all tortillas is made fresh in-house. Everything is made with corn so the whole menu is gluten free.

There are also cocktails, mostly with mezcal or tequila.
La Cosecha – Food
Our first dish was the chilaquiles divorciados with chicken. Divorciados indicates that they used both green and red sauce in the dish. Good flavour, although I would prefer a bit more kick to the green sauce, which is the one that was supposed to be spicy.

The sopecitos are mini fried masa dough topped with chorizo or chicken. I loved the fried base and we opted to get the ones with chorizo which were a great combination. They come with lettuce, cheese and pickled onions.

The costra, which is a form of tortilla made of cheese, was topped with shrimp and vegetables. Salty from the cheese but it was balanced by the rest of the ingredients.

The tacos with beef had a very good tortilla as base and the toppings were fresh and really aromatic. Good taco but for me it was lacking sauce.

The last of our mains was the huarache, which is masa dough with beans. It was topped with pork belly so the combination of the fatty meat with the masa was excellent. Probably my favourite dish.

La Cosecha has only one dessert option which is the corn bread with dulce de leche. I am not a huge fan of cornbread but the combination with the dulce de leche worked well.

Conclusion
A very good Mexican restaurant. Fresh, tasty and well prepared food and great value for money in the moderate price category. Between Takos al Pastor in the cheap eats category and Can Chan Chan in the more pricey options, this is a great middle ground in terms of Mexican restaurants in Madrid.
