Fusion cuisine inspired by Spain, Peru and Italy

80/20 restaurante is a fusion-style restaurant that creates dishes influenced by Peruvian, Spanish and Italian cuisine. The name draws inspiration from the Pareto law, 20% of the cause influences 80% of the outcome.

We visited on a Monday for dinner.

Location/Environment

The restaurant is located in the trendy Malasana neighborhood. The design is simple but creates a warm and relaxed vibe for the guests.

80/20 restaurante – Menu

The menu includes options for appetizers, one salad (although the Peruvian Causa is listed as a salad as well), main courses and desserts. There are also wine and cocktail menus to choose from.

Service

Overall, there was very nice attitude from the staff that was pleasant and welcoming. We did have a small issue when we had to change our wine order 3 times because the wines we asked for where not available and we were only told after a few minutes had passed each time. Nevertheless the staff was apologetic and trying to recommend similar options.

80/20 Restaurante – Food

As a starter we got the two croquetas dishes, one with red prawns and spicy red sauce and one with mushrooms and aji amarillo. The croquetas were very creamy and crunchy, but none of them was spicy as I expected at least from the one with the prawn.

Next we had the tuna tartare with “Nikkei salmorejo” and quail egg which was a delicious combination. I love salmorejo soup and I found the combination with the rich tuna a good match.

Another dish was the causa with crispy chicken, avocado, tomato and aji amarillo. Although the chicken was premade and just warmed up for the dish, it was a nice addition to the mashed potatoes and the vegetables created an interesting texture difference. Surprisingly this dish was included as a salad in the menu.

Last we had a classic Lomo Saltado with rice and Creole potatoes. The sirloin was cooked to a nice medium rare but the sauce could benefit from some more intensity. The potatoes were nicely cooked although slightly soggy.

80/20 Restaurante – Conclusion

80/20 Restaurante is a solid option for a casual/comfortable meal. The environment is cozy and you get good quality fusion cuisine with some very interesting ingredient combinations.
